This is not just the story of our company. It is the story of my father Virgilio, his choices, his journeys, and how, almost without realizing it, this story has also become mine.
When people ask me how this company was born, I never know where to start.
I could start with the bags, the leather, or the leather goods. But the truth is that our story begins much earlier. And, curiously, it begins with coffee.
It’s the early seventies. My father worked in the coffee sector and closely followed the entire production cycle. From selecting the raw material to the finished product. At first glance, it may seem like a world far removed from leather, but today I realize he had already learned what really matters: recognizing quality, respecting the raw material, and understanding that every detail makes a difference.
Because some things don’t belong to just one craft.
The aroma of a good coffee already tells a story even before tasting it. Leather does the same: you touch it, observe it, feel it in your hands, and immediately understand if you have something special in front of you.
At some point, together with two friends, he decides to take a completely new path. Thus, a small leather goods workshop is born.
And here is a detail that well tells the spirit of those years: all three partners had surnames starting with the letter P. That’s how Pelletteria 3P was born. No strategy, just the simple need to give a name to something that was being born.
At first, it was pure enthusiasm: workshop, first artisans, first collections. Then the eighties arrived, along with the boom of Italian leather goods. The products began to travel between Italy and Germany, and the work grew rapidly.
When the other partners decided to stop, my father continued alone. He took over the company and carried everything forward with the same determination as always.
In the following years, the market changed and production gradually moved abroad as well. Thus began a long work between Italy and India, made not only of production but also of training: teaching a method, a culture of quality, a way of making leather goods.
Even today, we work with some of the companies born from that shared journey.
Then I arrived.
Actually, thinking about it, I have always been there.
I grew up among leathers, samples, and work tables. It was simply my father’s world. Only later did I understand what was really behind every product: experience, time, attention.
About fifteen years ago, I, Paola, joined the company with a background in design. I started by creating new models, then I realized that to design well, you first have to know the material.
Even today, when a new leather arrives, the first thing I do is touch it. It’s an instinctive gesture, probably learned from my father.
Over time, the need also arose to give a new identity to the project: AUT AUT STUDIO.
A name born from a simple idea: life is made of choices. Continuous crossroads, like in Sliding Doors, where everything can change in an instant.
AUT AUT means exactly this: “either this or that.”
Today, I am the one leading this company.
It’s not always easy. The world of leather goods has changed, but our approach has not.
We continue to seek quality in materials, attention to detail, and products designed to last over time.
Every time we develop something new, we look for the same thing as always: an immediate feeling of quality as soon as you hold it in your hand.
When I look back today, I see only one constant.
Not the bags.
Not the numbers.
But a sequence of choices.
And a story that, after more than fifty years, we are still writing.
