When talking about sustainability, it often seems like everything has to be black or white.
A material is either sustainable or it is not.
However, reality is almost always more complex.
Leather is an animal-derived material and has an impact. Saying otherwise would be dishonest.
What we can do is choose how to work it.
It is precisely from this reflection that The Oak Collection was born.
For this line, we chose a vegetable-tanned cowhide. A process that uses natural tannins extracted from plants and bark and does not involve the use of chromium salts.
It does not mean eliminating the impact.
It means trying to reduce it.
It means choosing less aggressive processes and limiting the use of certain substances used in traditional treatments.
But there is another aspect that is equally important to me.
When we talk about sustainability, we often only think about the environment.
I also think about people.
Those who work with leather every day.
Those who touch it, cut it, sew it, and transform it into an object meant to last over time.
Choosing less aggressive processes also means caring for those who handle it.
And it is a part of sustainability that is still talked about too little.
Then there is the simplest reason of all.
I like this leather.
I like it because it does not remain the same.
Over time it darkens slightly, gains nuances, and develops that patina that makes each piece different from the others.
It is a living leather.
And it tells the story of time instead of hiding it.
Maybe this is also why it is mainly chosen for men's products.
It does not like artificial effects, overly bright colors, or extreme transformations.
It has a more authentic, more direct character.
And perhaps this is exactly why we continue to like it so much.
In the end, I believe sustainability is not just a matter of materials.
It also concerns durability.
An object that accompanies us for many years is an object that does not need to be constantly replaced.
Produce less.
Buy better.
Use longer.
This is also a form of responsibility.
The Oak Collection is born from this idea.
Not from the pursuit of perfection.
But from the desire to make a more conscious choice, without giving up quality, character, and the beauty of a material that continues to improve over time.
